Being a female owned and operated bridesmaids business, we actually wear our dresses! When we do, we discover things that we never would have known had we not spent a fun night dancing, sitting, drinking, eating and even being pregnant at a wedding or party in one of our own Bari Jay dresses!
Here is some of what we have learned and what we have done to make our dresses more comfortable than the competition and to keep your bridesmaids happier and able to eat, drink, dance and have the best time at your wedding – not to mention when they wear their dress again!
Pockets, they solve the Lip Gloss problem!
We added pockets to any and all dresses that we could! Now pockets don’t always look great on every dress, but if you could have a pocket, we added one. This way you can have your gloss and maybe even your phone on hand for some great pics!
Stretch!
At the end of the night we’ve discovered that we would have been so much more comfortable in a dress with a little give. After a fun night of dancing, eating, drinking, etc it would have been nicer to have had a stretchy dress since our feet were already killing us from the evening! So we added stretch wherever we could:
The lining on some full lace dresses such as styles 1828 & 1856:
On head-to-toe sequin dress styles 1876 & 1878:
And on sequin skirts styles 1873 & 1874:
Then we added our new stretch crepe fabric! These dresses have some give and feel fantastic with no lining pulling at you all night!
Raise Your Arms!
We really try to have dresses you can move in! We try each dress on ourselves and discuss if you can lift your arms up or if you can wear a bra. It won’t work every time, but we recently asked one of our male competitors in the bridesmaid dress making biz about the arm raising question and he said he never thought about it so this is something to be aware of!
Maternity Dresses and Little Girl Dresses
This is an issue of not filling out a dress or not having room in a dress for your growing belly! For younger girls we have junior bridesmaid dresses that are based on our current bridesmaid dress styles, but are a little more modest and age appropriate. For moms-to-be squeezing into a bridesmaid dress that requires the entire dress to be remade is no fun, but Bari Jay has you covered! The same junior philosophy works for maternity dresses, we take existing styles and add in extra space where a pregnant woman needs it. We also have maternity separates and new stretch maternity bridesmaid dresses that are comfortable and practical!
Colors
Our dresses are available in so many colors! We’ve mentioned how much we love color and working with a variety of palettes, but have you seen our new upcoming stretch crepe colors? OMG! Gorgeous!
